Mansion Samurai Ranmas

Ranmas are a really detailed carved wood panel that were used usually above doors in houses in Japan. They were pretty detailed, and all of them have many elements sculpted in the wood, with several forms and volumes mixing between each other. My mandate for this was to create from scratch some Ranmas that would be used in several parts of a house.
I started building the main blocking in 3DsMax. After this I went directly on Zbrush to sculpt and get some nice details, in order to later be able to do a bake of the textures and get the desired info to achieve a nice material in Painter. It was important to have enough geometry, not only to be able to catch the light in nice ways, but also to generated some interesting shadows. Some final details, like dust, would be added in Anvil. For this task, I worked closely with Vira Tith, who was the owner of the Samurai Kit. I really enjoyed this task.
